Charitable and Volunteer Organizations
Volunteering to work with a charitable organization is an excellent way
to meet new people, learn more about Japan and Japanese culture, and make
a much-appreciated contribution to your community. Kansai Time Out (KTO)
is an excellent place to find organizations needing volunteer help. Your
church or temple will also have suggestions.
CHIC
The Community House and Information Centre on Rokko Island is always looking
for volunteers to staff the office, answer telephones, do research, etc.
If you are interested, contact the CHIC Administrator at 078-857-6540.
ARK / PAWS

pet services in English.
Animal Refuge Kansai (ARK)
Animal Refuge Kansai works to alleviate the chronic problems of neglect,
abuse, abandonment, and uncontrolled reproduction of pets in Japan. At
present, ARK cares for about 200 dogs and 160 cats at its sanctuary in
Nose, Osaka Prefecture. Although ARK has a finite amount of space and
a limited number of people able to help care for animals, the organization
does offer advice and help in times of need.

How to help ARK
*Become a member. Members receive regular information and the quarterly
newsletter (A Voice for Animals).
*Volunteer.ARK always needs volunteers to help care for the animals (dog
walking, cat cuddling, grooming etc.) and to help with office work and
other chores. Contact the volunteer co-ordinator, Jeff Bryant, for details.
Tel: 078-987-1785
*Sponsor a pet. If you are only here for a limited period and unable
to adopt a homeless animal, consider sponsoring one of ARK's animals.
These are special animals which are unlikely ever to find any other home,
and will therefore remain at ARK for the rest of their days.
